The National Curriculum Outdoors series of books have been written by Deborah Lambert, Michelle Roberts and Sue Waite and have a foreword written by Juliet Robertson.
As authors, we have many years of experience in practising high quality curriculum-based outdoor learning and the research underpinning such practice.
Co-authors Michelle and Deborah were involved with the Natural Connections demonstration project. Sue Waite led that project with over 125 schools across the southwest of England, delivered and evaluated by the University of Plymouth.
One of principal initial barriers to teaching outdoors was found to be a lack of confidence in how to link outdoor activities to curriculum objectives and so the National Curriculum Outdoors books were conceived; to support teacher confidence in linking outdoor activities to curriculum objectives and to save teachers planning time!
Deborah Lambert is a former primary and special educational needs teacher, now lecturer for the Learning Institute and Outdoor Learning consultant.
Deborah delivers tailored outdoor curriculum training for schools as 'Taking Maths Outdoors'.
Michelle Roberts is an assistant headteacher and founder of the outdoor learning programme 'Wild Tribe'.
Michelle delivers training for teachers and school staff with an emphasis on engaging with the curriculum outdoors.
Sue Waite is a former Associate Professor in Outdoor Learning at Plymouth Institute of Education.
Sue led the Natural Connections Demonstration Project - the UK's largest learning in natural environments research project to date - and has led and conducted extensive research into outdoor learning.
Celebrate the launch of this new book with our after-school events in March!
